Awesome place for kids and adults too. Learned a lot about latest scientific advances along with the history of astronomy. I personally recommend the show about blackholes and the following talk about melbourne night sky.
Watched the Dark Matter show! And was quite interesting watching in a 75 degree recliner seat at a dome shaped screen. Recommed it as a casual outing if interested in cosmic stuff.
Being my very first planetarium experience, i was completely blown away. Loved every part of the journey, the dome projection and sound immersion arrested my senses with consensual bondage. Some of the animation could be of been crafted better, higher res models/textures, less jarring movements from the camera. Other than little technical details, I'm completely sold and plan to return for feature length films.
I came here with my family. And it was good.
Planetarium is great, the science works is a bit dated and worn out though. Many of the interactive displays are broken and don’t work. The “Beyond perspectives” display was alright but more of an art installation than a science display. Many of the displays have not changed since my last visit (roughly two years ago). To be fair I didn’t get the chance to walk all the way through as I was there for the Planetarium, and I’m sure there are some other great exhibits. Three stars....needs work
Pretty disappointing. Not only was the information super basic (especially for an 18 show not even aimed at kids) but it was presented boringingly and at times there was incorrect information. The seats dont allow your head to properly lean back and see the full dome. I can't believe it costed 22 (as a concession) for something that was shorter than a movie and terrible quality.
The Melbourne Planetarium is a place to wonder. They have great films running on the domed movie screen, exploring many thought provoking astronomy related topics. Great for anyone with even a slight interest or curiosity about space and the universe. At the end of each film there is a stargazing simulation which mimics what you would be seeing on the sky. This is great for learning about the constellations and position of the planets. I have taken my kids (7 & 9) here many times and they to have enjoyed what the Planetarium had to offer.
