What a great way to see Melbourne! We are staying in the city for a few nights and stumbled across this ferry yesterday. We took a round trip to Williamstown for 32 each, we had a great lunch there and came back 2 hours later. Pasing under the Westgate bridge gives a whole new perspective to our city. It is a fun way to see the river and bay. I would reccommend it highly.

Good to do once, the boat was a bit grungy and not well loved

Have caught the ferry for years. Can't fault the experience

Terrible experience. Group of 7, two in their eighties and found ourselves crammed like sardines into a tiny, hot and dirty cabin. Hard to breathe and staff stood blocking the entrance making it even worse. Three American travellers - one with a walker - got off before the boat left as they said they were afraid the elderly traveller in their group would pass out. It was impossible to see how the people behind them in queue would have fit in otherwise as there was no spare room. We do not believe there could have been sufficient life jackets in the event of an emergency, nor could everyone have got off in time if so (noting also there was no safety briefing of any kind). On arrival in Williamstown (late) we provided feedback at the staff desk and asked for our money back on the prepaid return journey - so that we could transfer to their competitor company - but the woman on the desk refused and simply told us to call the phone number on the brochure. The person on the phone was defensive insisting the boat did not exceed the allowed number of passengers- hard to believe and doesn’t change the fact that there was no room. He took my number, and numbers for two other families who used my phone to register their strong complaints (collectively we comprised at least 25 passengers, of a total of around 50 on board, and most of those stuck in the cramped cabin) and said his manager would call us back - obviously at his leisure as nothing so far. Both he and the desk staff told us the return journey was on a better sized boat which perhaps explains a few other more positive reviews we have seen on this site - but we were unwilling to risk another journey with this boat company. Despite not receiving a refund - yet - we have purchased tickets with a rival company for our return trip. My husband and I are Melbourne based and will never again take guests on a Williamstown Ferries boat.

Received a voucher for my three year old son which we used yesterday. I feel embarrassed for tourists that this would/could be a reflection of Melbourne/Australia! Ferry needs a good clean, staff's clothes could have done with a wash, no proactive help given unless you very politely ask, everything seemed too hard and captain steered the boat with his feet! The website stats hop off at Scienceworks and hop back on yet the staff complained multiple times about needing to go via Scienceworks. Travellers we are better than this! Sorry on behalf of the rest of Melbourne! Having travelled numerous times on the City Cat in Brisbane, the pride in the vessel, the service offered are MILES ahead. PS the other "slight" problem is they never answered their phone (tried about 8 times, left message and called their 24 hr number too) so I could make a booking, my MIL had to walk into city and hand her mobile over to one of the staff members!

It was a nice cruise to see Melbourne in a very different way. The ferry was big and lovely with a lot of outdoor space. You should visit Williamstown's information centre. They have friendly and knowledgeable staff to talk to you about the town.

Williamstown Ferries does not accept Companion Cards. The company fails to acknowledge that by charging people with disability for their carers to support them, they are charging people with disability twice. This is discriminatory practice. The excuse that they are charged by government per passenger is pathetic. Their direct competitor Melbourne River Cruises, embraces the Companion Card scheme completely.
