I have been going to Red Drum Music Studios for the past 3 years and it has been a fantastic musical journey. I highly recommend this studio for anyone seeking quality teaching, professionalism & being part of a great community!

Red drum have just been truly wonderful. From the very start when I called to ask about lessons Sarah was incredibly positive, friendly and gave off a wonderful vibe. When I started the lessons themselves, Darren was just great. It’s always nerve wracking to do a new thing but within a few minutes I was at ease. All the other teachers I’ve met have been similarly friendly and I have no hesitation in declaring all of them awesome. When I first bought my kit I assumed that I could learn how to play from the internet, and while I managed a little progress, there’s just no substitute for someone highly skilled showing you the way. If you are looking to learn drums I cannot recommend Red Drum highly enough. It’s been incredible fun so far and I can’t wait to learn more!
Darren is a true veteran in the music industry, and specifically in drum teaching. His deep knowledge and mastery of multiple musical instruments is not the only thing I take away each lesson. His approach to instructing, or as he rightfully puts it "guidance" , has truly helped me to make great progress in my drumming.
An hour with Darren each week these last few years is close to my favourite time of the week, don't tell my wife! It's awesome how tuned in he is to figuring out, and then working with the unique way that I learn (rather than imposing some template on everyone) - it's an amazing teaching style, he's endlessly patient and very insightful. It has been a test of my commitment to learning a musical instrument. I do thank D at Red Drum for his patience. Guitar didn't do it for me, then piano and the same result BUT now I have found the DRUMS. Where have you been all my life?! I have made more progress in the past couple of months than ever before with other instruments and the smile I have on my face is now permanent. Red Drum has a way to draw the best out of you, in a way leading with the carrot not chasing behind with the stick. I look forward to each lesson and relish the next milestone to be set and achieved. We love Red Drum Music Studios. We have two boys, one who learns drums with Huw, and one who learns acoustic guitar with Darren. Both Darren and Huw are skilled, highly qualified teachers with the experience and expertise to teach students at all levels, from beginner to advanced. The annual concert, where students get to experience playing in a band setting, is a highlight.
I have enjoyed every bit of my time at Red Drum Music Studios. It’s indeed a pleasure and a privilege to learn from Darren(Daz) who both teaches and plays multiple instruments professionally. Daz packs in so much for each lesson that It’s wonderful to see that he has thought of you through the week and planned those 60min with you, while making it all seem fun and enjoyable and even making it sound effortless when he says “I don’t really teach anyone, I only guide you or gently nudge you towards your goals” !! I can’t imagine not going back to drum lessons week after week. All the instructors at the studio are really approachable with amazing command over the instrument and lovely Sarah who’s ever so meticulous and always available to answer queries, all of who make Red Drum one big happy family.
No regrets about having joined Red Drum Music Studio. The instructors know what they are doing from a musical but also from an educational perspective. Different approaches to improving on the players' technique and speed over all styles of music, paired with great people in a friendly atmosphere. Good laughs can be had, and various group activities are taking place throughout the year, where it's great to link up with the other students. Darren and his team cater to everyone from beginners to old hands that want to brush up on some of that good RLRR LRLL. The student body is made up of virtually all age groups, from young future rockstars starting out, to more mature players that might want to get into a new hobby. If you live in Melbourne and you are thinking about joining a drum studio, think no more. This is it.
