Can honestly say I love this restaurant. We travelled to Tasmania from the Gold Coast. Stumbled across this restaurant in Penguin. The young staff in this restaurant could easily rival a 5 start restaurant. The cocktails are made on point and well the food is just amazing. I would actually say this restaurant could rival some of the 5 star restaurants we have eaten at. I felt like I literally had to be rolled out of there as the food was that delicious. This restaurant was the reason we stayed in Penguin a 2nd night. One tip...make a booking early as they do get booked out. Definitely worth the stop. Oh and the train passes straight through there. It is not massively noisy, nor does it stink. Very interesting though. Great for kids to see as you will see by our photos.

A very bad first experience. Sadly, I can't give 0 stars. Upon arrival, the young waitress was friendly as we were seated to our table and our drink order was taken shortly by another waitress. Sadly thats where the good service ended. We ordered entrees and mains together. The entrees arrived within a decent amount of time. The calamari entree was overcooked and bland whilst the scallop entree was again, bland and partly undercooked. After finishing entrees it took over 25minutes for the waitress to clear our table despite walking past our table several times and the waiters standing at the bar talking amongst themselves. Finally when our table was cleared, we had to wait another 30minutes for mains which was not any better. The porterhouse steak was very bland, the roasted beetroot tasted like anti-septic which was not appetising. The prawns were absolutely shocking. They were well overcooked and the sauce on the prawns had reduced so much that the bread served with them was redundant. Heading out to pay, three waiters standing at the bar, none of which took any notice of us wanting to pay until we spoke up. Honestly not sure why they call it tapas as it was far from it. The customer service didn't exist and I have no idea how this restaurant survives.

El Perro is in a lovely location and the pizzas my wife and I had were quite nice. Reasonable pricing. Our only issue was the approach of senior staff to dealing with a problem. My pizza was a La Espanola which was made without the black olives that were part of the description on the menu. It could have been an oversight in a busy kitchen or they might simply have run out of olives. When I (politely) asked a junior staff member, she checked with the kitchen and came back to advise the chef said that the olives were present but on the bottom, hidden by other ingredients. The cut edges of all eight slices showed no black olives. When I asked (politely) again, a senior wait staff member appeared shortly to say the olives were definitely on the bottom of the pizza but gave me a small bowl of cold black olives “in case I still wasn’t satisfied”. When I showed her the pizza cut edges, she could not point out a single olive. She then said “I’ve asked the chef twice and I’m not going to ask him again”. Even without the olives the pizza was reasonable but I thought the chef should have come to our table and checked for himself. I also thought the senior staff person was rude when she implied I was hard to satisfy and therefore the real problem. Even with no olives I would have rated El Perro a 4 out of 5 but the rude staff made the experience unpleasant.

¡Qué fantastico! We weren’t satisfied going just once and had to come back the next night! Awesome food, great sangria, friendly service. Can’t recommend highly enough. The calamares were cooked to perfection and the pork belly was spot on. Do the toblerone mousse deseert, you wont be disappointed!
