Other than the room itself being fairly clean, this place is definitely not up to motel standards. We came into reception on arrival were an elderly man (who was not friendly) had trouble finding our booking. There were five of us in total and we had originally booked two seperate rooms. However the man had said he could put us all together in a large family room which was located opposite to the other hotel rooms. We had told the man that we wanted the two rooms we had booked and paid for, however, he was adamant we should go into the family room because there wouldn't be enough space for everyone in the two seperate rooms. There was exposed asbestos on the railing leading up to our room. Going inside, the room was extremely outdated and nothing like the photos we had seen online when we booked. The air conditioning in each room was extremely loud, and some of the curtains in the rooms were being held together by clothes pegs. The doors to the bedrooms were not on the rollers and had to be pushed open instead of sliding them. The floors were uneven and it felt like you were on a lean in the house. Considering we paid the same amount for this place as we could have paid for staying somewhere like Allure hotels (we only chose this place because it was in a closer location the the strand), it was extremely disappointing and definitely not worth the money. Rude staff member and the parking was not even concreted, we had to drive onto a driveway and park on gravel. This place should be avoided, I would not recommend it to anyone, it was very misleading.

In prime location for 95 per night. Coffee at the Cafe out the front is great. With Ocean views. Good breakfast food too.

The Strand Motel in townsville is in a premium position almost opposite the long board cafe. This is a safe and interesting part of Townsville where I felt safe to walk around at night alone. The motel itself is cheap and cheerful. It was clean and well equipped. I will definitely stay here again.
Great location- across from the beach & park areas. The motel is a little dated & doesn’t look great from the outside. However, it is clean, roomy and has everything you need. Toaster, microwave, sink, plates & cups. Comfy, clean bed. Upstairs rooms have a balcony overlooking an empty lot but if you go out to the balcony, you can see the beach in between the trees. It is a two minute walk to coffee club, good fish & chips, burger place & Greek takeaway.
Excellent location- perfect for walking along the Strand. Close to the restaurants/bars and also close enough to walk to the city centre. Nice and quiet. Great staff, great cafe on site with a great view. Bed comfy enough. Small typical old motel room with air con and ceiling fan. Everything you need for 1-2nights. Probably no longer. Park right outside room. Small pool also. Very short walk to Coles etc right behind Motel.
We stayed here in February 2020 whilst traveling in Australia. We stayed in one on the lower suites facing the unbuilt side of the big hotel bar restaurant. We were there for five nights. It is basic old and dated but lovely friendly staff fresh linden and whatever you needed you just asked. The pool was too hot to swim in so was not used. We walked the streets at nights and travelled in our rental car during the hot hot daytime temperatures. 34 to 35 C. Loved it. We came from Canada our winter. Lots to do but we were selective and visited magnetic island on guided tour. Lovely place. Could not swim there anywhere due to jellyfish, sad for us. This motel is really close to everything and the price is very good. Made friends with a possum. Came out every night to grab food from our hands. Be careful they have shaft claws and may bite your fingers .
Older style motel which was clean & tidy. Receptionist was friendly and efficient.
