I first sent my daughter to the SU summer camp at the end of her year 9. At that time she was timid, indecisive and very insecure. She tried hard to get out of going and finally to get her to go I told her if after the first day she didn’t like it then I would personally rescue her and take her home. But I never heard from her the whole time after the coach pick up point. 5 days later when I picked her up from the coach drop off point, it was extraordinary the change in her. She hugged several of the campers and even one of the team leaders goodbye. On the way home she was still very quiet, even sad and the reason was she wished the camp hadn’t ended so soon. I asked her what she liked most and it wasn’t any of the fun activities although she loved them all, to my amazement it was the devotional talks and group sharing! She went to 2 more summer camps and in year 12 her school chose her to be a leader along with one other student. I thank God for and have immense gratitude to Scripture Union!
