Having spent her early years on a farm in rural Queensland, she completed tertiary studies at the Academy of Design (now known as LCI Melbourne) in Collingwood. She has a passion for animals, and is well versed in creating portraits based on composite sketches. She has refined a technique of Painting with Fire by etching the carbon soot residue of an open flame to reveal hyper-realistic images of wildlife. Combining her passion and skills, she has created a collection of original artworks that raise awareness and provide a voice to these endangered species. Absence Exhibition is an exciting collaboration between Maegan Oberhardt and The Kodiak Club. In this exhibit, the absence of natural existence is focused on threatened species in North America. Highlighted through original artworks created through a technique of ‘Painting with Fire’, portraits are revealed by removing layers of carbon soot as the residual from an open flame. By the expansion of European settlement in North America, many species were exposed to disease, poisoned, displaced, hunted, or eradicated in order to fulfil the gluttony of man. These artworks represent the scar that is left behind from the proliferation of the human race. *Original Artworks and Limited Edition Giclee Prints will be available for purchase* Partial proceeds will be donated to wildlife conservation efforts.
