After engaging for a month (their payment options were 10 weeks or 18 weeks) they turned around & said they don’t want me. I am struggling to find a decent GP on the coast & now I know I will not have a decent midwife for the birth of my first child. I am devastated to the point I am considering returning to NZ for a decent midwife. During one of my appointments the midwife said she wanted me to teach her about my indigenous culture. I made a bit of a face & said clearly I don’t feel comfortable with that. Why? My indigenous culture is sacred, I am pregnant & I don’t want to have to teach a coloniser about it when I am focusing on me & my child. I think this is the real reason they rejected me.

Engaging the support of Coast Life Midwifery was the best decision that my husband and I made during our first pregnancy. The care and support that we received from our primary midwife and lactation consultant Allison Stephens, as well as midwives Jillian Clarke and Beth Newman, was exceptional. Not only did they prepare us well for birth with regular pre-natal appointments, but we got to meet other parents-to-be at their birth education classes. They supported us to have a calm and empowering birth (despite it taking some unexpected twists), and we were able to relax knowing that we were in great hands. We also received fantastic post-natal support, with frequent home visits and follow-up clinic appointments during the first six weeks after birth. The team also focuses on linking new mums with one another through mother and baby groups. We can’t thank Coast Life Midwifery enough for helping us to have such a wonderful experience! Cathy and Mo
Cannot reccomend these ladies highly enough. Had a fantastic experience, private practise midwifery gives you so much more one on one contact and care. The team are beautiful and experienced and I will be forever grateful for the birthing experience I had with Ali. Thank you!
