Love love love Magnetic island in the winter. Perfect 25 degrees with a cool breeze. So much to do and not everything costs money. Relaxing, peaceful, but a great mix of walks, wild life, nature. Perfect spot.

A must do when in Townsville, even as a day trip. Scooters are a great way to see most parts of the island or just get the bus. Alma bay is the most family friendly location.

What a beautiful place!!! We hired a topless car, drove to all the sites we wanted to, and couldn't stop taking photos. The (pretty tough) walk to the forts a real highlight. Our little pink Barbie car made us feel very special. A great day, right from departure to return. The ferries are great, and the whole day went smoothly.

It should be called Magical Island with so many beautiful beaches, snorkling areas, hiking paths where you see koalas in the wild, cafes, restaurants, all styles of accommodation and multiple paid tours to help you explore this amazing place. Only a 30min boat ride from Townsville.

Beautiful place, take enough water on your way and a good head!

Amazing views from the Fort lookout and it had well marked track. It's very easy to get around the island however getting your own car is better than waiting for bus. Hiring a small car from the rental company next to IGA was a better choice compared to the topless cars. It's secure and provides protection from insects and rain

The Forts walk is great for everyone including non-whining kids. Saw a good lot of koalas too

One of our favourite places on the East Coast of Oz. You can go on fantastic scenic bush walks exploring the WW2 military installations at the forts or discover the beautiful bays around the island on walking tracks, or hire a Suzuki 4wd or scooter. Go koala spotting, you'll always see some on the Forts walk. There's great pubs and eateries around the island. There's a bus service to take you round the island if you don't bring your car on the barge. Accom ranges from backpackers to up market resorts. We prefer to stay at Horseshoe Bay on our sail boat though, which is a great anchorage.
