Horrible booking experience from an owner who is just plain rude. I booked online almost a week before our intended dining date. I heard nothing back after three days and then phoned to confirm. I got a tirade about how busy he was, how he hadn’t been in the restaurant , about covid, about school holidays and after the rant he told he would confirm ‘soon’. Another three days later I’m still waiting and it’s the day of the booking so I’ve cancelled. He’s set a new record for rudest customer service and we are choosing to eat somewhere we will feel welcome.

If you get the chance to be in Jindabyne this is a MUST visit restaurant. I had the pork schnitzel and it was the best I have ever eaten. The meat platter was also delicious. You can sit on the balcony and the view of the lake is spectacular. The ambience is good. Was lovely and positively noisy the night we were there. You will need to book and if you wAnt the pork knuckle you need to preorder it. The chef is larger than life and comes out and checks in with all patrons as to how their meal is. The beer steins are awesome. Highly recommended. Upstairs and no lift just to note.

Fantastic food. The portions were very generous. I highly recommend this restaurant. We will be coming back every chance we can. Booking ahead is advise to ensure you can get in and if you want to order the pork knuckle.

Awful experience. I had booked a table and received email confirmation that my booking had been successful from the owner himself. We arrived 5mins prior to our booking to be met by the incredibly rude owner whom turned us away. He stated they had booking problems over the weekend "Over 412 bookings, which is good for me!' which led to him not getting the bookings (again- he HAD received my booking and had my details as per the email I had received from him). Rather than an apology, he looked at us as if we had done him wrong and did not apologise at all. As a local I am incredibly disappointed and will not be dining at this restaurant again, regardless of how good the food is.

This place exceeded expectations - great hearty Austrian food in the snowy mountains. The Kassler was great - and others enjoyed the schnitzel, sausages etc. We tried to go again but they closed for the end of winter season break - mid October - which was the only disappointment. Great beers too.

Terrible experience!! I made a booking for two in the morning and received a message that the Austrian has received the booking. I tried to give them a call around 5ish - no one answered. I left a message asking if they can please confirm the booking - no response.... We arrived there in time for our booking 7:15pm. The host (an older man) greets us coldly and I show him the booking on my phone. He looks at it briefly and says "no you don't have a booking". He then makes this hand gesture signaling us to get out. Some guy behind us, not sure if he belongs to the place or not, just says to us "if you don't have a booking get out". Nice. Great service. I have never been treated that poorly . Look. I have worked in hospitality for over 5 years. Let met tell you, being a nice host that apologizes for their own mistakes is not that hard. I'm sure the food is great. But that place needs a serious change of management. And looking at other comments I am not the only one who thinks that. I will not come back and I would advise all my other fellow Austrian/ German expats to just go to the Harmonie Club in Canberra if they want to enjoy a good meal from the Heimat. Food is good and service is way friendlier.

Let's start with the food, nothing spectacular, but not bad either. Average price for this type of fare. Next, the background music was hardly backgtound. At points, I could not hear what the person sitting opposite was saying. Overheard the owner come chef, tell another table that it was good that the music could be heard in the car park! Finally, the customer attitude, plain socks. We arrived at the restaurant at 5.10pm, have you got a booking? No. The restaurant was empty, but that did not stop him from making us feel like he was doing a massive favour in seating us! I've read other posts and it seems that if you don't make a booking, you are the worst customer in the world. In summary, the food is not a must, the customer attitude is bad, so why do it to yourself?
