Read and write reviews about Waybarra by Garigarra. aybarra by Garigarra is a 100% Indigenous owned and operated business producing handwoven art to be worn or displayed and delivering weaving workshops, using traditional Aboriginal weaving practices passed on to me by my Elders. All products are created from sustainable materials. About Garigarra: Garigarra (to be truthful, Wiradjuri) Mundine is an Indigenous woman from Dubbo, NSW. She is Wiradjuri and Kamilaroi on her mother's side, and Bundjalung and Yuin on her father's. She has been building her traditional weaving knowledge for the past 10 years through the traditional processes of her Elders passing down the weaving practices . Garigarra has been given permission by her Elders to use her weaving skills to create contemporary art pieces and to pass on her weaving knowledge to others. When Garigarra isn't weaving, she works for the Australian Government, and has been building her knowledge of international politics and human rights, through her work and from studying at the Australian National University, graduating in 2018 with a Bachelor of International Relations. Whilst studying Garigarra was one of the ACT representatives for the 2017 National Indigenous Youth Parliament, represented the ANU at the World Indigenous Peoples Conference on Education in Toronto, Canada 2017, and represented the Wiradjuri nation at the Spirit of the Planet, international Indigenous festival in Bergamo, Italy 2016. Since 2015, Garigarra has also worked part-time in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet within Indigenous Affairs; and on social and economic development in the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities. She is currently a Graduate at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Garigarra's passion and love for her Indigenous culture has been her main motivator to build her traditional weaving skills, alongside her western education, to walk between two worlds and promote Indigenous culture through her art and advocacy.
