I met Master Yang in 2019, one week after fracturing a lumbar vertebra, and I somehow knew he held a key to my recovery. After six months with very little spinal movement including three months in a restrictive back brace, I started doing 10 min a day of basic movements from his calligraphy health system. I had scar tissue and fear around the fracture, and also significant loss of tone from being in the brace for months. I gradually built up to a longer practice and now, 18 months later, I trust my spine again and move better than ever. The benefits from the practice extend beyond the healing of my injury to better overall mobility and strength, somatic awareness and mental health. I completely fell in love with the Calligraphy Health system: it includes a set of very very rich and beautiful movements for health and well-being, powerful keys to support recovery from specific injuries and trauma, and foundational principles rooted in Eastern philosophies that apply beyond the practice mat, to inspire a grounded and harmonious approach to life.
