This is not an organic shop as listed, but a private residential address, and without any signage. I arrived within the business hours listed on Google, but the person at the address had me stand on the footpath while she spoke to me from across the yard and over the fence. She told me that it was a home business, which is not a shop, and that she sold 4 grams of kefir grains for 48.50. I had asked for 20g. This is shocking, so I confirmed with her that I'd heard right. She confirmed: 4g for 48.50. The fermentation community will gladly give away kefir and tibicos grains. I have in the past. High-quality kefir grains when sold are usually priced at 5-10 for 10-20g. The person then told me, from across the yard, that 4 grams was a large amount, but this is false. The ratio of grains to milk can be between 2% and 10%, so for 500mL of milk, 20g of grains is reasonable. I suspect there was some miscommunication, but I couldn't resolve it with her. I spent 1.5 hours in total driving there and back again specifically to go to a kefir shop. After I left, I ordered some organic kefir grains online for 8. I was very cross.
