This exhibition is a masked reflection of the days gone by. Regardless of the intent of the Sisters, it is clear from the exhibition that the indigenous people of this land were never asked if they wanted to play basketball, learn sewing or gymnastics. There are even image boards of people learning to type and perform catwalk modelling. The exhibition focuses on the work performed by the Sisters, however sadly does not touch on the children stolen from their families and the part played by the Sisters. It was an exhibition that although informative was one sided and left me feeling uneasy about the treatment of the indigenous people of our land. Not to mention the women that ‘guarded’ the establishment on our visit were cold and were a reminder of how the Sisters probably treated their wards/minors (prisoners). When we came out to the entrance, one woman mentioned she had lost us in the CCTV - old habits die hard (sorry for the pun habit)
It's so spiritual
