I'd love to be able to say how good this place was, but I can't. I travelled across Melbourne with friends to visit on a Sunday excited to try out this recommended place. To our dismay we arrived to find a closed shop. This was at lunchtime (about 12:30). Both Google Maps and the cafe's website clearly state opening hours of 8:30am - 2:30pm on a Sunday. Even more confusingly, the cafe menu states: "open 7 days until 5pm". Either way, Poppy and Seed should have been open. There was no sign or any indication on the website or social media that it would be closed on this particular day. Ruined our day out to be honest as we had come to Elsternwick specifically to try Poppy and Seed. Please do better at communication with customers, as we are absolutely not inclined to travel from different parts of Melbourne to Elsternwick to risk repeating this experience. I understand that unexpected things sometimes happen, but if this is the case, at the very least post something on social media and put up a sign at your door.

My friend and I are pretty picky when it comes to bagels having enjoyed them all over the states. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the bagels along with the juicy corned beef on our Reubens. Perfect mix of everything on the bagel. Will definitely come again. Great fast service also!

We really enjoy the bagels we get from here - when we eventually get them. Have been loyal fans for a long time but the past 3 visits have tested us and I think we are almost done. The positives - the bagels are delicious, they are fairly priced and the staff are mostly quite friendly. The issue I have is the amount of times they forget your order, forget part of your order, forget that you have even ordered, given your order to someone else or seem to make everyone elses bagels, who ordered after you, before getting to yours. You are constantly having to follow them up and remind them that you are waiting on your food (and then remind them what you have ordered). It takes a lot longer than it used to, we regularly wait 30 minutes for 2 simple bagels, no coffee. Once you follow up you will witness/hear a blame game amongst the staff about who did what and who was responsible which goes on for a solid few minutes. It is very unprofessional and, to be honest, your customers don't care who was responsible, they just want it fixed promptly. I recommend putting the order tickets in some sort of system - perhaps working from right to left of the tickets, rather than just pulling them off randomly, will help avoid some of the confusion and the long wait times for some. My other suggestion is to remember that most people are ordering during their lunch break and to value your customers time.

Quality of food is absolutely horrendous and uneditable. I avoided going here for a while in hopes they would get better and they are far worse. I like it here. Staff are friendly, space is bright and open. I love the plants and the handing shelf over the window. The times I go it's been steady but not crazy busy and I was able to sit quickly to work or chat. I like the variety of bagel options that caters to varying level of appetites. They also use real tea for their chai lattes!

Yaaaasss! So glad we found this place. Delicious smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, vegan options for my friend, good coffee and friendly smiling service staff. Easy to see why there was a line of people queueing up to get their hands on these bagels. We will definitely be back.
