It was founded as "The Starry Expanse Project" in late 2008, forming a small group of volunteering enthousiasts. This project title is a nod to the story in the point-and-click game Riven: the Sequel to Myst by Cyan, Inc. The original had its release in 1997 and it consists of a sequence of prerendered photorealistic images. Each image took hours to render using raytracing as the rendering technique. This resulted in advanced render quality, even pioneering with image display techniques like HDR. These days, we are convinced we can recreate it to run on current-gen systems. We take pride in enabling people to enjoy our vision of what Riven can be like nowadays. We dream about 4K HDR 60fps on-the-fly rendered images. Our artists and the Unreal Engine are hard at work to make that happen as you read this! If you want to see how we do that, do not hesitate to visit our website: just click that high-res button!
